Distance Learning Courses

  • Completed by individuals at their own pace within a particular month.  Each course will be offered each month.  Due dates are the 25th of each month

  • Contain activities such as reading content, formulating action/improvement plans, carrying out action/improvement plans in your own program/classroom, and relaying the results of carrying out the plans

  • Ensure the transfer of learning; help you improve your practice while earning BFTS hours simultaneously

 

Important Notes

  • *YOU MUST REGISTER FOR THIS CLASS BEFORE ACCESSING OR SUBMITTING WORK PACKETS* Visit our Training Calendar to do so.

  • *PLEASE ENSURE YOUR PDS NUMBER IS ON THE WORK PACKET ALONG WITH THE NAME THAT YOU ARE REGISTERED AS IN THE PDS SYSTEM.

  • Paperwork received after due dates will be moved to the next month’s session and will require new registration by participant.

  • Work packets can be printed out and hand-written, and turned in by either scanning and emailing the packet to the email address below, or mailing the packet to the address below. 

  • Only work packets need to be returned, not the articles/reading material.  Note that packets mailed in may be given credit in the following month depending on when information is received.

Language Development: Listen, Talk and Read

The teacher's language through play and interaction has a major impact on how children learn how to talk, listen, read, and eventually write. Why is it important to talk with children as early as infancy? This training covers language used with children in the classroom, teachers reading and singing with children and how these behaviors relate to reading and writing.

*Beginning Level

*2 Hours

*Workforce Knowledge and Competencies: ECE4.3 - Intentionally planning and preparing a learning environment that nurtures each and every child’s initiative, encourages active exploration of materials, supports engagement with activities, and encourages interactions with others.

Language Development: Math and Science

Participant will find ways to help children learn more about math and science using everyday experiences. Participants will gather information to implement in their classroom to increase math and science language with their children during free play and routines.

*Intermediate Level

*2 Hours

*Workforce Knowledge and Competencies: ECE5.6 - Utilizing content knowledge in the GELDS Cognitive Processes and General Knowledge domain, as well as all sub-domains, selects, implements, and evaluates developmentally appropriate activities for each and every child, taking into consideration cultural context, home language, and individual needs.
